July 3.  Almost all of Ruby's puppies have gone to their new homes now!  "Reagan" (aka Blue Boy) will go home next weekend, and "Sapphire" (aka Purple Girl) will stay with us.  White (still nameless!), "Bo" (Green), "Wally" (Red), and "MacGyver" (Yellow) went home last weekend;  "Milo" (Black) went home this morning.  Lee traveled home to his owners in Montana last Tuesday!

June 11.   Several big developments this week.   Lee the Lab puppy was moved over to join Gem's litter.  Their level of development had caught up to his, he was the same size as them, and the play in Ruby's litter was getting too rough for him and the pups too much bigger than Lee.   To continue to follow Lee's adventures, visit Gem's Puppies' photo page.
Big day today ... first time Ruby's pups went up to the ponds and went swimming!   A little string cheese helped lure everyone into the water, and everyone got a chance to swim!
They don't know it yet, but today's other major milestone is tonight will be the last time they nurse on their mother.   After tonight, they are fully weaned, and Ruby can rest and start to recover.   She's been the best of mothers, but she's awfully thin now and its time for her pups to be on their own.

June 6.  5 weeks old tomorrow!   They are going outside every morning now.   Eating 3 solid-food meals a day, and now limited to nursing only 3 times a day.    Ruby nurses them standing up now, making them work for their meals!   Little Lee is big enough to reach too!
Still spending lots of time sleeping and growing, but the play is getting rougher and more creative.   They have lots of fun things to climb on, encouraging confidence and agility.   Now we have fun lessons like playing with bird wings ... they LIKE birds!
And "surfing" lessons on the buji board -- the unstable board rocks and rolls under them as them move around on it, teaching them confidence on a moving surface and to use their muscles to shift their weight and balance themselves.  Necessary skills for a search/rescue dog, agility competitors, and hunting dogs that will one day ride in boats or on 4-wheelers!   In the pictures below, Lee demonstrates the buji board, with cheese for a reward!

May 30.  The pups were introduced to "solid" food this weekend!  First time eating out of a bowl is always fun!   Lee gets his own small bowl to ensure he's getting his fair share!

May 25.  What a CUTE age!  Learning to play.  Learning to bark and howl!  The whelping box is gone now and each day they explore a little further!   Still sleeping and eating most of the time, but active play periods are lasting longer and coming more frequently.   Lee is up to 2lbs now, eyes open and starting to interact and play with his "littermates."

May 20.  Ruby and pups are doing great.  Yesterday the puppies' ears began to open and they are showing response to sound now.  They are getting better at walking.   They are beginning to interact and play with each other and with us!  A very fun age!

Little Lee's eyes and ears are not yet open (he's 6 days younger), but he holds his own in the midst of the Golden crowd!  He's gaining weight and strength every day!

May 16.   Eyes are open!

Gem's puppies arrived last night.
Ruby is fascinated by the puppy sounds coming from the room across the hall!

May 14.   Pups are growing -- all are 2 lbs now!   Blue Boy's eyes are opening this morning, and the others are not far behind.  They are trying to walk, though it consists of more tumbling over than actual walking!

The little Lab puppy has a name ... he is "Lee."   After a slow start, Lee is now gaining weight every day!

May 7.   Ruby's litter has grown by one!    Rosa had only a single puppy and he needs a litter to grow up in so that he can learn proper canine social skills.  Ruby didn't hesitate to adopt this newcomer, tucking him right with her brood!    The new pup was born May 7, and has some growing to do to catch up with his older "siblings!"

May 4 & 5

No, you're not seeing spots!  The color dots on the pups' shoulders are nail polish marks for identification, a different color for each puppy.  Purple is the girl, and the boys are Black, Blue, Green, Red, White, and Yellow.
May 3

The pups are HERE!

First pup was born just before 10 pm Monday night, and the last arrived around 1 am.
