"Trap"

Trap represents the second generation of Vintage-bred Goldens.  He has been fulfilling the promise of a pedigree that boasts a mix of field, conformation, and multipurpose Golden Retriever bloodlines.   Trap's silly, playful personality is reflected in his name ... "irrepressible!"   He is a real joy to live and train with.  

At 2 yrs age, Trap enjoyed his first season hunting with Doug, and made his debut in AKC hunt tests.   In a 6 week period in the spring of 2004, Doug and Trap ran 5 Senior hunt tests, passing ALL of them to earn Trap's first AKC title, Senior Hunter!    Trap earned his Master Hunter title fall of 2007!    Most importantly, Trap is Doug's main hunting dog, and loves nothing better than a day out hunting with his best buddy and bringing in those birds!

In his obedience ring debut, at 4 years of age, Trap easily won his Novice B class with a score of 197 for his first CD leg.   His obedience career was interrupted for several months of professional field training.   Trap returned home with only a few weeks to train in obedience and finished his CD title in 2 more shows with 2nd and 3rd placements, scores of 198 and 196.5.  He showed 6 times in the Novice ring, all in 2006, and made the Top 50 Goldens in Novice for 2006!

Trap earned his CDX in one long weekend summer 2007 in a break from his field training.  Trap is trained through Utility and preparing to continue his obedience competition career in spring 2008.   

Sadly, just after Thanskgiving 2007, barely two months after finishing his Master Hunter title, at 6 years of age, Trap was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma.   He is currently undergoing chemotheraphy; however this cancer is not curable in dogs and odds are Trap has only a few months left to live.   Cancer is an all too common problem in the Golden Retriever breed.  A health survey conducted by the Golden Retriever Club of America in 1998 found approximately 60% of the breed will die of cancer, with hemangiosarcoma and lymphosarcoma being far and away the most common.   We at Vintage Golden Retrievers strongly encourage you to support cancer research in Goldens and other breeds.   Donations to the Golden Retriever Foundation's Zeke Fund help fund cancer research.  CLICK HERE for more information on the GRF and the Zeke Fund.
